Green Service Review: SmartEV on Demand

Hertz On Demand is a new service that provides easy all inclusive car rentals for short periods of time with short notice. There's a web application and a membership card is sent. Scheduling is done through the website. My trip in the SmartEV overall was pleasant. And as much as I want to rave about the vehicle - because it's an awesome little ride - I do have to mention some details.

The car was only charged up to 45% when I received it making me a little nervous about my range. I was only going across the bridge to Brooklyn, but why be nervous about that? Also the gps directed me to a closed street due to construction and when I realized the detour and pulled away from the traffic snarl - the gps redirected in such a way to send me on a trip that made me miss a meeting. Was it me or the gps? I did think having gps was cool - it helped out after my missed meeting to get to the next destination. Though there was no easy way to pair my phone with the vehicle as I have found with other cars I've rented. Hands free driving while calling was out for me - so to call about the meeting after I got into Brooklyn I had to pull over into a gas station - which seemed super ironic.

If you're wondering about the car itself - go rent it! It's amazing, so quiet and responsive, I can't begin to say what a pleasure it is to drive - great pickup! It zinged down the west side highway like a champ. Just be careful when you creep up at a stop light on someone - it's silence takes some getting used to. The weight of the car and how it handles was unexpected. It got through several NYC tight squeezes like only a car this size could.

All in all I was grateful. Hertz sponsored and credited me the drive so I could do the review and customer service was quick and helpful when I had a question about access (all you have to do is wave your Hertz OnDemand card over the windshield to unlock and lock the vehicle). So there you go Hertz On Demand has a SmartEV you can rent. The electric car is alive and well.

Interview with Twig Terrariums

O k you're seeing a couple of serious interviews for ecofashion from the (capsule) show and you're wondering what's next? Well here's another company we found at (capsule) deep into green designs, that tailor makes it's wares, you could say they are bespoke because they will create to your individual needs and measurements and they use skinny little models too. They are TWIG TERRARIUMS and a fun thing for home and office fashion. MG:What gave you the idea to put little people and moss together? Twig:We're urbanites with nary a backyard between us except a little bit of concrete and a fire escape, so terrariums give us the sense of space and...acreage! Between us we now have dozens of backyards! Michelle has always been interested in botany, so of course she started the obsession. She found a cruet jar in her kitchen that she said was destined to become a terrarium. Katy soon followed suit and found a cute little mushroom-shaped jar. We both instantly

Its nice to be on the other side of the interview for a change.  Bryan: How did you get your start in writing content for renewable energy and green building?  Nikki: I had been a writer for many years. I started as a reporter in my hometown of Durban, South Africa. I went on to become an editor for a property magazine for several years until I wanted to travel. I spent the next 8 years traveling around the world. I met my husband at my first destination and we funded our rock and roll lifestyle on a mix of travel writing and teaching English. Traveling really brings home the many things we have to be grateful for in our lives and seeing the impact our
