The Davey Tree Expert Company was founded in 1880 and is a venerable name in arborism and landscape care. The company is employee owned and has offices across North America and Canada. Metropolitan Gardening asked for an interview regarding their sponsorship and involvment with a unique foundation celebrating the reknewal and care of notable trees - The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF). Sandra L. Reid Manager, Corporate Communications/Marketing responded with a solid clarity about the TCLF and how Davey provides support for the trees selected.
MG: What attracted you to the The Cultural Landscape Foundation?
We were impressed with The Cultural Landscape Foundation’s Landslide program.  We felt the “Every Tree Tells a Story” 2010 Landslide focus was aligned with our Davey brand.  TCLF Founder and President Charles Birnbaum has a collaborative spirit and builds partnerships.  We were impressed with the participation of Garden Design and American Photo and the renowned project photographer team.
MG: How is Davey involved with Landslide 2011?
Davey is the presenting sponsor for The Cultural Landscape Foundation Landslide program.  Our support includes the program sponsorship and support for the photo exhibition.   Davey’s partnership with TCLF expanded in 2011 to a full Season of Events sponsor.
MG: Do you provide more than financial support?
The Davey Company provides both financial and promotional support.  The 2010 program support expanded beyond the photo exhibition to include an outdoor exhibition and the beautiful “Every tree Tells A Story” calendar. We are committed to promotional support for the 2011Landslide program and “Landscape I Love” calendar.
MG: What sort of projects do you expect that the Landslide 2011 will bring?
Since 1880, our business has been natural resource preservation. Our founder, caretaker of the green space at a local memorial garden, believed plants always have stories to tell. They announce spring with a burst of color and dazzle the landscape in autumn. They enhance our communities and bear witness to the moments in our lives, both the exceptional and the ordinary.
The goal of Landslide is to draw immediate and lasting attention to threatened landscapes and unique features.
MG: What specific outcome will you see for Davey as a result of your sponsorship of TCLF?
Davey's support of The Cultural Landscape Foundation demonstrates a dedication to the preservation of trees and the environment for future generations so they can enjoy the aesthetic and social benefits a healthy landscape provides.
MG: Does Davey get to provide any of the tree care to the featured plants in Every Tree Tells a Story?

The Landslide program is a nomination based program.  The Davey Company was not involved with the selection of the featured trees.
MG: What are some of the ways Davey has provided services at these sites?
Davey has care history with the Black Oak tree at Katewood.  http://tclf.org/sites/default/files/microsites/everytree/blackoak.html

Interview with Twig Terrariums

O k you're seeing a couple of serious interviews for ecofashion from the (capsule) show and you're wondering what's next? Well here's another company we found at (capsule) deep into green designs, that tailor makes it's wares, you could say they are bespoke because they will create to your individual needs and measurements and they use skinny little models too. They are TWIG TERRARIUMS and a fun thing for home and office fashion. MG:What gave you the idea to put little people and moss together? Twig:We're urbanites with nary a backyard between us except a little bit of concrete and a fire escape, so terrariums give us the sense of space and...acreage! Between us we now have dozens of backyards! Michelle has always been interested in botany, so of course she started the obsession. She found a cruet jar in her kitchen that she said was destined to become a terrarium. Katy soon followed suit and found a cute little mushroom-shaped jar. We both instantly

Her blog http://www.nikkifotheringham.com/ is chock full of sagely advice for the sustainable future. Bryan: Hi Nikki!  Nikki: Hi Bryan and thanks so much for this lovely opportunity. Its nice to be on the other side of the interview for a change.  Bryan: How did you get your start in writing content for renewable energy and green building?  Nikki: I had been a writer for many years. I started as a reporter in my hometown of Durban, South Africa. I went on to become an editor for a property magazine for several years until I wanted to travel. I spent the next 8 years traveling around the world. I met my husband at my first destination and we funded our rock and roll lifestyle on a mix of travel writing and teaching English. Traveling really brings home the many things we have to be grateful for in our lives and seeing the impact our
