ECO-BEVERAGE REVIEW: Live-a-Little Really Ravishing Red Organic Wine

Live-a-Little is an organic fair trade wine with marvelous packaging and shelf appeal. It caught the eye when I asked the store manager at New Embassy Liquors about what eco-friendly wines he carried. He pointed up to the very top shelf near the back of the shop. The label was colorful and looked like what I was looking for, "Organic - Fair Trade". How can you lose? I asked the manager to pull the bottle. The price was inexpensive and I was excited to taste it it.
I often travel home between the F and 6 Lines by walking a couple blocks on Lexington to shop for odds and ends. Tonight I was specifically looking for what eco-friendly wines that could be found at what was a random, albeit somewhat upscale wine and liquor shop. The store manager explained to me that many winerys had made a move to organic. That this was helping them with marketing and sales... and that many were already organic as a matter of course. Anyway I got the wine home and took a few pictures by the tree - then unscrewed the bottle. Maybe that should have been a tip... Is a screw bottle an indication of whats inside? Usually South African wines taste good to me. There's an unmistakable quality about the "earth" that is common to the reds. However this time was non-plussed. Perhaps it was the particular bottle.. There wasn't a distinctive nose and the wine tasted watery. I took a sip and put it aside to breath more... and didn't come back to it. To be fair I'll try another bottle some other time just to make sure. But on closer inspection there also wasn't any year or wine variety that I could find on the label. I might cook with this bottle - meh...

UPDATE!5/22/2013 I was sent a bottle of this wine recently in response to the review - and I got to say I was really wowed! It appears I was correct in my writting above I got a bad bottle- when I received the wine I was skeptical but after tasting I am completely won over by this Wine - you should try it too! Ever wonder why at a restaurant the wine steward smells the cork? It's because sometimes a bottle might go bad. My review obviously was of a bottle that "went south". KUDOS to the Live-a-Little really ravishing red! Awsome organic distinctive South African Wine. I give it 41/2 stars.Special thanks to http://www.stellarorganics.com/

  1. We are so sorry that you had such a bad experience with our wine. It is clear from the picture (we updated this label some time ago) and from the taste and nose you describe that the wine is old and/or badly stored. It's unsual for this wine to be left on the shelf for a long time as it is normally a juicy, easy-drinking wine that gets drunk quickly! Wine as you know is a natural product and can be affected by extreeme heat/cold or both. We hope that if you give it another go you will enjoy the wine. We'll be in touch to replace it! Kind regards from South Africa, The Stellar Team.

  3. This evening I am sampling a glass of Live-a-Little Really Ravishing Red, and I, too, wonder if I received a bad bottle? There was a slight fizz sound when I unscrewed the top, and the wine had some effervescence as it poured. Plonky taste, too. Sigh. I so wanted to love this wine--as you point out, it's organic, free trade and has an uber-cool label. I'm returning the bottle.

Interview with Twig Terrariums

O k you're seeing a couple of serious interviews for ecofashion from the (capsule) show and you're wondering what's next? Well here's another company we found at (capsule) deep into green designs, that tailor makes it's wares, you could say they are bespoke because they will create to your individual needs and measurements and they use skinny little models too. They are TWIG TERRARIUMS and a fun thing for home and office fashion. MG:What gave you the idea to put little people and moss together? Twig:We're urbanites with nary a backyard between us except a little bit of concrete and a fire escape, so terrariums give us the sense of space and...acreage! Between us we now have dozens of backyards! Michelle has always been interested in botany, so of course she started the obsession. She found a cruet jar in her kitchen that she said was destined to become a terrarium. Katy soon followed suit and found a cute little mushroom-shaped jar. We both instantly
